Don't be so gory

Letter writer blasted scary costumes and decorations

Editor, The News:

A few years ago I wrote to the paper about the changing trend in Halloween decorations that people were displaying in their yards.

It is very disturbing to see the store shelves lined with props of severed heads, bloody body parts, blood-spattered knives and chain saws with real sound effects.

These things are very frightening to many children because they seem so real.

I know many will shake their heads and disagree with me, but is it really necessary to subject our children to such gore?

So, again, I would like to kindly remind people to think twice about what they choose to display in their yards at Halloween, for the sake of all young trick-or-treaters who just want to have fun.
