Re: Proposed bylaw to single out pit bulls (The News, July 18).
I have breed and owned Staffies for more than 35 years and have never had a problem like Maple Ridge district staff are sighting.
It seems to me that the proposed $200 per ‘aggressive’ dog fee is a way of justifying the wage increases at municipal hall.
Don’t target responsible owners of these dogs. Invite yourself to a home that has them for pets and see for yourselves.
It’s the majority that are being punished for the minority. Take a public vote.
I also own one of the most dangerous dogs, the Chihuahua. I cannot believe that in a humane society that a municipality could implement this legislation without public input.
I also have friends with pit bulls and American Staffies and they are responsible owners, love their dogs, and have not had problems with them biting anyone.
I have a cat that bites people. Are they going to ban cats?
I don’t mean to be rude to the council members, but they certainly will not get my vote when election time comes around.
