Dear Editor,
[RE: Thousands of Maple Ridge apartments in limbo since BRT announced, Dec. 22, The News]
I take at face value the article on above subject.
This letter was directed to Maple Ridge mayor and council and MLA Lisa Beare.
I write to you to express my shock and disbelief that these significant delays have occurred at a time when our community is in such dire need of additional affordable housing and to request additional information.
Specifically, I am interested in what actions council and Maple Ridge staff and B.C. government agencies have taken to resolve this issue since the moratorium was issued. In addition, why has resolution on such an important issue taken so long?
Given these unacceptable delays, despite housing being such a huge priority, this situation has all of the appearances of bureaucratic BS.
I would have thought that council and B.C. government agencies would have done everything possible to expedite approval of construction of units along these routes. If this is happening in communities across B.C., there is little wonder why we have such a problem.
I would very much appreciate information to respond to my queries.
Ken Smith, Maple Ridge
