It was announced last month that the Haney Place Mall in Maple Ridge has been sold. (The News files)

Dear Editor,

With redevelopment of the two Maple Ridge malls on Lougheed [Highway] being discussed, this is a great time to address another badly needed improvement to our city.

In particular, post-secondary schooling opportunities could be incorporated into the redevelopment, like Surrey’s Central City that boasts shopping, offices, and an SFU campus.

Currently, youth in Maple Ridge have to leave our city or at least commute some distance to pursue any schooling after high school.

There is nothing local for them or for adults re-training.

The central location of both (current) malls and accessibility to transit would make them ideal spots for any university or college to set up another campus.

New local employment opportunities would also be a positive result. Something to think about.

Terryl Plotnikoff, Maple Ridge
