In our Wheelhouse program, we are doing a youth issues project and my partner Ciaran and I have chose to do smoking.
If you think about today’s population, can you truly say that you haven’t seen somebody having a cigarette or cigar just sitting reading a book or driving down the highway, coming home from work?
But why do they do it? They know it’s bad for them and they know they could die earlier from it. Psoriasis, lung cancer, heart disease are all bad things you can get from smoking.
I live in a house with two smokers and they smoke in the garage, where I air out my hockey gear.
I can say, there is absolutely nothing worse then seeing your friends at hockey, being happy, then hearing, “Ugh, who’s gear smells like cigar smoke?” It’s the worst feeling ever, to know it’s not your fault your gear stinks of smoke.
Second-hand smoke just is as bad as smoking.
Did you know that if you smoke, your child has a 75 per cent chance of smoking, too?
Another thing: where do you put your cigarettes if your out walking? We assume you just throw it on the ground, not caring, which, if you think about it, is littering.
We’re only 13 and 12 years old, but we know the future of our planet must involve no smoking.
