Dear Editor,

[Re: Community rallies after boy killed cycling, The News, Oct. 20]

The terrible community news about the death of an elementary school student last week, was so shocking and sad. The condolences and sympathy from the many people who sent messages to the family via social media and news outlets, and directly, was amazing and speaks to the level of humanity in our midst.

Nothing can take away the tears of sadness and the pain of the loss of a child of any age, but this poem I dedicate to this grieving family and their many friends:

A Precious child has passed us by,

to join sweet spirits in the sky.

Look up high into that sky, and

always remember that sweet young guy.

(My sincere condolences to the family.)

Antoinetta DeWit, Maple Ridge
