Maple Ridge council is looking at a 4.4 per cent tax increase for 2022. (The News files)

Dear Editor,

Re:[ Maple Ridge sets property tax increase at 4.4 per cent, mapleridgenews.com, Dec. 13]

I just read (with horror) that Maple Ridge property taxes are about to increase again!

I have always paid mine monthly in order to avoid a huge bill come July. It’s not exactly a secret that Maple Ridge taxes are among the highest in the Lower Mainland (and we don’t even have garbage pick-up included).

With the upcoming increase, bang goes my OAS!

Would the “power(s)” that made the decision to increase the already exorbitant taxes, please advise how I am going to maintain an average standard of living minus a pension cheque. I look forward to council’s suggestions. Should be interesting.

Maybe it’s time that “Pensioners Unite,” i.e. truck drivers.

Ann Hayes, Maple Ridge
