People in the community working together, on initiatives such as Speed Watch, Citizens on Patrol, Block Watch, bike patrol, etc. help keep Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows safe.

Dear Editor,

I live in an area that has its share of problems related to crime etc., (the downtown core).

The police and the volunteers of the Ridge Meadows RCMP are doing their part to make sure that our communities are safe and hopefully crime free. But they need your help in doing this.

I have been with the community policing bike patrol in the past, and I am again going to be involved in these efforts to make our community safer.

They also have Citizens on Patrol, which is an excellent volunteer activity keeping an eye on our neighbourhood streets.

But we need more community members to step forward to help out.

All of us can do our part by joining the community policing effort and volunteering some of our time.

It's a really fun and rewarding experience, that will give you confidence that you're making a difference in making our community safer.

Think about it and make the difference.

John E. McKenzie, Maple Ridge
