Letters: A solution for drivers who still text

If the government is serious about the problem of talking and texting while driving, I have a suggestion.

Editor, The News:

If the government is serious about the problem of talking and texting while driving, I have a suggestion.

When a police officer pulls someone over for this infraction, make it mandatory that the officer seizes the device and writes an order to appear before a judge to explain why the offender has no regard for the safety of themselves or the other people around them.

Only then may they pay the fine and have their device returned to them.

For a second offence, the offender will never be allowed to posses any communication device in a vehicle. It can be kept in the trunk in case of emergencies.
