Letters: B.C. Liberals would make Scrooge proud

How can the government members look themselves in the mirror when they are not even willing to discuss clawback issue.

Re: MLA brings forward welfare clawback, party bus issues (The News, May 28).

I would like to offer kudos to our MLA, Doug Bing, for trying to initiate a discussion by members at the Liberal Party convention regarding the disgraceful practice of “clawing back” payments made by parents to augment the meagre incomes of their children.

How can the government members look themselves in the mirror when they are not even willing to discuss this issue.

Of all the penny-pinching practices of our government, Ebenezer Scrooge would be most proud of this one and how it illustrates the saying “penny-wise and pound-foolish,” holding back assistance to children now, while realizing they will very likely cost society a great deal more in the future.
