Re: Shelter losing cold weather beds (The News, Sept. 24).

Having read the article by Monisha Martins about the federal government no longer funding beds for the poor in the winter, I had to speak out.

This is a travesty and an abandonment of our most needy citizens. At the same time, this government is giving huge tax breaks to corporations that fund their election campaigns to the tune of millions.

And, Prime Minister Stephen Harper has made Canada a proxy of the U.S. – wars abroad, spending hundreds of millions of out tax dollars fighting America’s wars.

Let’s take care of our own first, and not abdicate our responsibilities for the marginalize or weak in our society.

True, they don’t donate to the Conservatives and probably don’t even vote, but they are still Canadians and deserve to be cared for.

Shame on you, Mr. Harper, and your bloody callousness. I can hardly wait till 2015.
