Re: Maple Ridge MLAs misspoke about youth house funding (The News, Feb. 24).

I find it appalling the neither of our MLAs were aware of the Iron Horse Youth Safe House having been closed for nearly two years.

What have they been doing as our so-called representatives in Victoria?

They are being paid to be our advocates in the Legislature. They should be aware of what is happening in their constituencies.

Iron Horse served as an essential link in helping children at risk of homelessness and abuse for many years.

When the federal government pulled its funding, many local citizens advocated for the Ministry of Children and Family Development to step in to assist our children.

After all, that’s its mandate.

I hope Maple Ridge voters remember this as part of the Liberal legacy on May 9.

The two local Liberal MLAs don’t know what is going on in their own ridings.

Re: New concrete barriers make highway through Maple Ridge safer (The News, Feb. 24).

Just wanted to thank you for printing an article updating everyone about the barriers.

My name us Shireen Laing and I went to the government about this after my dear brother Emmanuel Hermanus was killed on March 7, 2016.

It is coming up to a year soon. Time goes by, but the pain stays. Death, especially unexpected death, changes you forever.

That is the reason I was so adamant about having a barrier installed. If it could help even one family from avoiding such pain that shakes you to the core of your being, then something good came out of such horrific sadness.
