Letters: Stop sprawling, get to work bringing better transit

Taxes going up 12 per cent in three years is unacceptable.

Editor, The News:

Jackie Chow has it right. Taxes going up 12 per cent in three years is unacceptable. This council is living in the ’70s.

Young people today often don’t own a car. They increasingly want to be able to walk or have a short commute to work, live close to shopping, entertainment and activities.  They have seen their parents struggle with long commutes and spend less time with family.

It is predicted that in 10 to 15 years houses built in urban sprawl will be hard to sell.

Council should stop giving developers tax breaks, charge the full amount for permits and applications and get on with working hard to bring industrial development and transit to this area.
