Letters: ‘Zero credibility’

As an admin for the Albion Neighbours Facebook group, it is my duty to screen new members to the group.

Editor, The News:

I wanted to let you know that your news group may be getting ‘taken for a ride’ by a few people with an agenda, posing as many different people.

As an admin for the Albion Neighbours Facebook group, it is my duty to screen new members to the group.

Allowing people with no personal identification into the group is potentially dangerous to the rest of the legitimate public group members. The anonymous can ‘say’ whatever they want.  They can intimidate, bully, harass, or threaten others, with little or no recourse for the victims.

I think it is irresponsible for your news group to use social media comments or posts from ‘anonymous’ users, just as it would be to post letters or columns from anonymous sources.

The anonymous have zero credibility.

For all we know, there is only one person behind all of these anonymous profiles. Allowing the anonymous to have equal voice can be very misleading and damaging to everyone else in the community.

So I ask, why are people with no profile pictures or any other means of personal identifiers being given the time of day in your newspaper?
