Editor, The News:

I was so happy to see the amazing turn-out we had at our first Hammond Neighbours Community Party and Free Swim on July 7. More than 200 residents dropped by the Hammond Community Centre to connect with neighbours and share their ideas for projects and plans to improve Hammond, and enjoy the free swim and delicious cake.

We’d like everyone who made the day a success.

Special thanks to Val Patenaude, Lisa Zosiak and Ron Gordon for their work on Hammond’s Heritage and the RCMP officers who arrived in full dress uniform.

People are already connecting and planning projects in the areas of community building, neighbourhood beautification, heritage preservation, community safety, family activities, sports and outdoor activities, crafts and arts, and gardening. We are also connecting via our Facebook group (Hammond Neighbours) and our brand new (developing) website at www.hammondneighbours.ca. If anyone would like to hear about upcoming Hammond projects and events, please email admin@hammondneighbours.ca to be added to our mailing list.

There are two exciting events taking place in Hammond this week: Thursday, July 19 at 6:45 p.m., fire trucks will visit Tolmie Park, 20260 Lorne Avenue for Hot Summer Nights; and on Saturday, July 21 from 5-8 p.m., the parks department will  host a “Teen Night” at Hammond Pool with a DJ mixing music for the kids (Top 40 music) and games to play in the pool, all included in the regular admission price.

It’s so exciting to see Hammond buzzing with activity, energy, and ideas.
