More to Maple Ridge's new dog bylaw

So why can't residents own a savannah cat or stick bugs?

So residents can own a Pitt bull, but not a Savannah kitten?

The recent dog bylaw being pushed through by council says it is not breed specific and it is mainly about dogs, but that is just not true. It is also not an amalgamation of the previous bylaws. There are new pet bans in this restrictive law that are not being publicized.

Council and the SPCA have banned ownership of Savannah cats, serval cats, stick bugs and centipedes. Watch out if your nine-year-old brings a centipede into the house. Watch out for Kindergarten teachers wanting to set up an educational display of stick bugs for the classroom. Watch out for your neighbour who brings home a Savannah kitten for the kids for Christmas. And, good heavens, if they wanted to buy a kitten in Maple Ridge, not a chance. Breeding is restricted also.

Yes, the land of farms and green space is not the land of the free. You better move to Surrey before you get in trouble.
