Shape shifting reality in Albion should be stopped

Restructuring the community plan to densify the Albion suburb north or 108th Avenue is a blatant shape shift of reality.

Re:  Report proposes more homes for north Albion suburbs (The News, June 22).

Restructuring the community plan to densify the Albion suburb north or 108th Avenue is a blatant shape shift of reality.

The planning department and Maple Ridge council have a strange talent for manipulating the size of our neighbourhoods through bad number crunching.

So, 61 per cent of written responses oppose the increase in zoning?

The reality is that more than 50 per cent of those asked do not want to see this area overly densified.

Now that sounds like a done deal. Leave the existing plan alone.

However, during a meeting in May, 160 people “seemed to appear” more positive about re-zoning for densification.

So the planning department and council now suggest, these 160 people have more credence than the 61 percent polled?

So, who are these folks who attended this meeting?

Could they be comprised of realtors, developers or builders, you know, those kind of self-interest types?

The planning department and our own municipality is using 160 “positive people” to potentially add 250 more homes to the pre-existing community plan.

This is a blatant, manipulative shape shift of reality and should be stopped in its tracks.

If not, the sight of a simple, lovely tree might become quickly extinct.
