Thanks, trustees, for anti-homophobia policy

It’s exciting to hear that Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows school district vote to bring in policies to prevent homophobic bullying.

Editor, The News:

It’s exciting to hear that the Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows school district voted unanimously to bring in policies aimed at preventing homophobic bullying.

Both myself and my colleague, local MLA Michael Sather, would like to commend students, staff and school trustees for taking steps to make your district a safer and more welcoming place for lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgendered youth.

I’d also like to echo teacher Erin Talbot’s call for provincewide policies to prevent homophobic and transphobic discrimination and violence in our schools. Students across the province have joined with New Democrats in calling on the premier to take real action.
