‘This is not a one horse town anymore’

Concerns to the city’s engineers, goes onto deaf ears in Maple Ridge

I live on Mountain View Crescent, in Maple Ridge. The city is trying to improve the road way and putting in side walks.

My only complaint with all the city’s improvements, either on my road or downtown, is the road width and curb placement.

They say they want to curb traffic. Well, they are causing the traffic to hit the curbs because of the lane width or curb placement.

The city’s idea to fix the problem of people hitting the curb on 224th Street is to put reflective tape on the curb.

Or when they fixed up the curbs and sidewalks on Lougheed Hwy.  in the city centre, they again narrowed the road.

I parked my one-ton Dodge pickup on that stretch of road. The traffic is just clearing my mirrors by inches.  As well, you better pay attention trying to get out of your vehicle or getting back in. There is plenty of room to make it a little wider to improve safety for traffic and pedestrians.

I have forwarded my concerns to the city’s engineers, but it goes onto deaf ears. Am I the only one who thinks this is a problem? This is not a one horse town any more. Not everyone drives a Smart Car.

The traffic still needs to be moved safely without endangering pedestrians.
