Last week the Abbotsford Canucks signed Jett Woo for one season and also dealt Vincent Arseneau to the Providence Bruins.

The Abbotsford Canucks made a pair of moves last week, agreeing to terms on a new contract with defenceman Jett Woo and then dealing forward Vincent Arseneau to the Providence Bruins for future considerations.

The club announced the inking of Woo on May 31 and the contract is a one-year, two-way deal. Woo will earn $775,000 at the NHL level and $100,000 in the AHL.

Woo had a bounce-back season in 2022-23, establishing himself as a reliable defender and also producing offensively with 21 points in 68 games. The 2018 Vancouver Canucks second round pick struggled at times in 2021-22, scoring just eight points in 42 games and being slotted in as a forward during stretches of that season.

Abbotsford Canucks general manager Ryan Johnson stated that Woo had a great season and will likely challenge for a job in Vancouver.

“He had a fantastic year,” he said, during a year-end press conference last month. “He’s such a huge part of our group and formed his identity as a player. His identity was puck moving, physical, playing heavy and contributing offensively. He has shot himself forward. We were hoping to get him a chance to play some games on top [Vancouver] but he’s put himself into that conversation and will compete for a spot next year in Vancouver. I see him as a guy who will play NHL games next year.”

Arseneau was a fan favourite in Abbotsford and had been in the Canucks system since the 2017-18 season. He collected 10 points and 71 penalty minutes in 35 games for Abbotsford this season and 11 points and 66 penalty minutes in 42 games in Abbotsford in 2021-22.

In an Instagram post, he thanked the Canucks organization, his teammates and the Abbotsford fans for their support during his stint with the team.

It’s unlikely that Arseneau will be returning to Abbotsford as a member of the Bruins, as Eastern Conference teams rarely travel to the west in the AHL.

In other Abbotsford Canucks news, the club is hosting a year end sale starting on Saturday (June 10). According to the team, discounted merchandise and equipment will be available for fans to purchase.
