The Meadow Ridge Barracudas midget hockey team is the 2011 league playoff champion after defeating the Abbotsford Ice 4-3.

After falling behind 2-0 early in the first period, the Barracudas battled back to tie it in the second period with two goals by team captain Breanna Josephison, both unassisted.

Although Abbotsford again went ahead by one goal, Barracuda forward Alysha Cloete blasted a slap shot by the Abbotsford goalie, assisted by Justine Alexander to tie the game at 3-3.

After a scoreless third period, the teams went to a five-round shoot-out to decide the winner.

Josephison was the only player who found the back of the net, as she put the puck through the goalie’s five-hole.

Barracuda goaltender Danielle Cloutier faced 23 shots during regulation time and was perfect in the shoot-out, securing the  banner for the Meadow Ridge association.

The banner was presented to  Josephison and alternate captains  Alexander, Samantha Punzo and Ashley Legassic at the award ceremony in Coquitlam Tuesday.

Other team members include Rochelle Bergeron, Kyra Chidlow, Cassie Clark-Vernon, Courtney Doucette, Jazmin Hancock, Casarina Hocevar, Michaela Maciuk, Paige Magnusson, Julia Peck and Alysha Simms.

Joe Legassic is the team’s head coach. Geoff Magnusson and Melissa Josephison were his assistants.
