With two more weekend losses, the Maple Ridge Burrards dropped to fourth place in the Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) standings.

The Burrards lost 10-9 in overtime to the Nanaimo Timbermen on Sunday night at Planet Ice.

Starting netminder Chris Levis was away from the team on a business trip, and scarcely used backup Carson Michaud came out of the first period wanting a do-over. The Timbermen led 5-0 after the opening frame.

“He had a shakey start, then played solid for three periods,” said Lance Andre, team president.

Michaud made 34 saves on 44 shots, and the Burrards battled back to tie the game, coming up with four unanswered goals in the third period to send it into OT, but Nanaimo got the extra-time winner.

League scoring leader Curtis Dickson had four goals and three assists, team captain Jarrett Davis had a goal and three assists, and Andrew Murphy had two goals and two assists.

On Saturday, the Burrards lost 7-6 in Coquitlam, in a game that saw them outscored 5-2 in the third period to give up the lead. Coquitlam pulled its goaltender and stole the game with just seven seconds left.

It was their first win in five games.

“We’ll be better. We’re going through some hard times, and we’ll turn it around,” said Andre.

Dickson and Aaron Davis each scored twice.

The Burrards have a 7-8 record with three games left, and sit in fourth place after being passed by 8-6 Burnaby.

The Burrards are in Burnaby on Friday, then host Coquitlam in their last regular-season home game on Sunday at 6:45 p.m.
