The Maple Ridge Burrards are consigned to third place in the Western Lacrosse Association after the Burnaby Lakers solidified their hold on second with two weekend wins.
Burnaby improved its record to 11-6-0, for 22 points, after upsetting the first-place Victoria Shamrocks 9-6 on Friday night, then blasting the hapless Nanaimo Timbermen 12-5 on Saturday.
That gives the Lakers home advantage against the Burrards for the opening round of the playoffs.
Whether that is an advantage at all is debatable – the Lakers are road warriors, with an 8-1 record in away games, and a losing 3-5 record at home.
The Burrards are 9-7-1, for 19 points with just one game remaining.
The fourth place team will be the New Westminster Salmonbellies (8-9), who will face the first-place Shamrocks (13-2-2) in the first round of the playoffs.
The Burrards wrap up their regular season schedule tomorrow (Thursday) in New West, with a 7:45 p.m. game at Queens Park.
The playoffs will be a best-of-seven affair, beginning Aug. 6 in Burnaby, with dates for Aug. 9, 12 and 16 in Maple Ridge.
