Burrards win B.C. peewee lacrosse title

The Ridge Meadows Burrards won a provincial peewee lacrosse championship last weekend.

The Ridge Meadows Burrards won a provincial peewee lacrosse championship last weekend.

Hannah Bigiolli, captain of the Peewee No. 2 team, was chosen MVP of the the provincials, held in Surrey.

Kaitlyn Davie was a brick wall in goal, stopping 26 of 31 shots fired her way by a strong Coquitlam team in the final, as Ridge won 6-5.

Gwendolyn Tomiye also stepped up and slotted two goals in the final, said Burrards coach Blair Peacock, who was proud of the girls as they had a short bench of only nine runners available for the championship game.

“Everyone stepped up and contributed when called upon,” Peacock added.

Ridge defeated Delta 2 to open round robin play, 7-6. The Burrards then downed Surrey 6-4 and Cowichan Valley 8-0.

Ridge edged Delta 1 in the semi-finals, 7-5.

During the regular season, Ridge went 16-2. The Burrards also won a the Reign Storm tournament, and came second in the Coquitlam Adanac Female Challenge.

Members of the Burrards: Alyssa Bonifazi, Angelina Chan, Carrera Morissette, Claire Catherwood, Dianna Kim, Ella Peacock, Jada Smith, Maddy Hastie, Sadie Welsh, Sydney Johansen, Bigiolli, Davie and Tomiye.

Peacock was the head coach, while Matt Johansen, Marco Bonifasi, Shawn Davie and Gordon Catherwood assisted. Nicole Peacock was team manager.
