The Maple Ridge Burrards made an new addition to their management staff this week with the hiring of Rey Comeault as the Western Lacrosse Association’s assistant general manager.

Comeault has been involved in field and box lacrosse for more than 15 years in Ridge Meadows and coached the Langley Thunder junior A for the past two years.

Comeault is currently an assistant coach for the provincial U-19 field lacrosse team.

“Rey has worked at the provincial level for many years and most recently with Canada’s U-19 National team, giving him immense knowledge of the upcoming graduating classes,” said Burrards coach and general manager Daren Fridge. “His insights and experience as a coach will provide us with detailed, current information to help us to build for the future, return to the playoffs and battle for the Mann Cup.”

Comeault will assist with the Burrards’ WLA draft preparation, evaluate current roster players and be responsible for communication and recruitment of unrestricted free agent players located throughout Canada.

The 2012 WLA draft takes place Monday, Feb. 6. The Burrards have the fourth draft pick overall.

Recent drafts have been very good to the club, allowing them to assemble a talented core of young shooters, including Curtis Dickson (2010, first round, third overall),  Joel Dalgarno (2008, first round, first overall), and Riley Loewen (2011, second round,  eighth overall),  who combined for 166 points last season.

Last season, the Burrards used their first round pick to select goaltender Chris Seidel, who had a 5-3 record last season in nine starts.
