The rinks of Ted Gangnes and Angelo Masaro pulled off victories to help narrow the battle for playoff spots in Haney Masters’ Curling at Golden Ears Winter Club.

Gangnes, along with third Chris Martin, second Bob Axford and lead David Christensen defeated Ed Brown’s rink while Masaro’s rink dumped the rink of Peter Koehler 10-8 as both took victories over higher-positioned teams to tighten the play-off race.

The Brown rink, consisting of Jack Flottorp (third), Earl King (second) and Al Golsack (lead), kept the game close until the seventh end, when Gangnes took a 6-4 lead. Gangnes then kept the sheet clean to prevent any comeback.

Masaro, although lower in the standings, used fine curling from Max Albrechtsen as well as Tony Stadig and William Ritchie to take a 10-7 lead into the final end against the Koehler foursome. Koehler had an opportunity to tie the game but narrowly-missed on his final rock.

The upsets created a log-jam in the standings and left at least 12 teams with chances of grabbing a spot in the championship round with only two games remaining.
