Eagles take to podium

Five members of the Golden Ears Athletics Eagles won their events at the B.C. track and field championships in Nanaimo, July 15-17.

Abisayo Ajibike, competing in the junior (18-19) age category, won the girls’ 100-metre final in 12.38 seconds. She also won the 200m in 25.97.

Mikayla Tinkham won the junior girls 1,500m in 4:57.58.

Ajibike and Tinkham, along with Emily Morley and Madelyn Huston came second in the junior girls’ 400m relay (4:07.30).

In junior boys Trent Bayer came fifth in 800m (2:06.94), as did Ryan Ibbitt in 400m (53.78).

In youth (16-17) girls, Huston won the 800m (2:15).

Morley came fifth in youth 400m hurdles (68.63) and eighth in 400m (61.34).

In youth boys, Zack Kuzyk came second in high jump (1.90m) and triple jump.

Jorrin Lenton came second in 400m hurdles (57.69) and fifth in 400m (52.23).

Graeme Roberts placed ninth in 800m (2:02.88).

In midget (14-15) girls, Chisom Obioha won the 100m (12.58) and long jump (5.34m).

Marquesis Haintz came first in 1,500m steeplechase (5:20.07).

In midget boys, Nick Kuzyk won triple jump (10.26m), while Aiden Grout came second in high jump (1.70m).
