Elementary track and field records fall

Some new local records were set as the Ridge Meadows school district elementary track and field meet was held last week.

Some new local records were set as the Ridge Meadows school district elementary track and field meet was held last week.

In the Grade 5 girls 100m sprint Chisom Obioha of Meadowridge set a new mark with a time of 14.47 seconds.

In the Grade 5 boys 200m race Justin Apps of Maple Ridge Elementary won in a record time of 29.16.

And, in the Grade 5 girls 200m event Rachel Dumonceaux set a new district record of 29.08.

Paul Moran, who has organized the meet for the past eight runnings, believes this was the 53rd annual event, and he has records going back about 30 years.

Moran said schools have been training for months for the event, and more than 1,700 kids took part, attracting some 1,000 spectators, and organized by more than 100 teachers.
