The Ridge Meadows Flames started their pre-season action by splitting a pair of games against the Grandview Steelers.

On Friday night in Maple Ridge the Flames lost 5-3 with a lineup that was entirely made up of rookies to the Pacific Junior Hockey League.

“We played pretty well, but needed to get a full 60-minute effort,” said coach Bayne Ryshak.

The next night they played a few veterans, and won 5-2. Jayden Genberg, Logan Hunter and Jarod McKay scored, and Tetsuya Prior had two.

Tuesday in Richmond the Flames beat the Delta Ice Hawks by a score of 6-2.

Ryshak said the Flames will be cutting down the roster, but the talent in camp leaves few obvious odd men out.

“They are all making our decisions hard, which is awesome.”

Ryshak said players are in BCHL and other junior A camps this week, and PJHL teams will soon get back players who get cut and come back to junior B.

On Saturday, the Flames will host the Ice Hawks in a 7:30 p.m. rematch at Planet Ice.
