Greg Hook and Laverne Hautz proved to be giant-killers as they thwarted two previously-undefeated rinks in Haney Masters’ curling playdowns.
Hook surprised leader Terry Gregory with a 4-4 tie and Hautz dumped Jack Stadel 9-7 to ruin their perfect playoff records. Hook, along with Hilly Boonstra, Paul Darbyshire, and Jock Anderson came back from a one-point deficit in the final end to grab the tie against the powerful Gregory rink which have dominated both league and play-off action.
Hautz battled Stadel’s foursome of Bill Hanula, Casey Vanblakken and Ole Hensrud until the final end when they stole three for the win. Third Barry Elson produced a perfect draw to add to shots by Roland Hill and Mike Cavanaugh and Hautz set up a guard for the win.
Two rounds remain in A division play, with both Gregory and Stadel on a collision course for this fall’s championship.
