It was a rough start for Team B.C. at the start of the 2013 Baseball Canada’s AAA Midget Championships.

Maple Ridge’s Cole Stovman and Cole Johnson saw Team B.C. get thumped 12-0 by the host team from Trois-Riviéres Thursday, Aug. 15.

Mitch Kennedy of Surrey was tagged for his first loss of the season, giving up seven runs in 3.2 innings Thursday.

B.C. managed just two hits in the game. Johnson went 0-1 at the plate.

Johnson, a five-tool player who hits for power, played with the Tri City Indians in midget AAA this year.

Stovman, a teammate, went 9-1 this year with a 2.50 ERA. He finished off the season with back-to-back complete game shutouts, recording 21 strikeouts.

The two Maple Ridge players have been teammates since they were eight. The two also celebrate their birthdays one day apart.

Team B.C. won’t have much time to dwell on the loss as they took on Alberta later that night. Team B.C. plays Ontario on Friday, Aug. 16 and winds up the round robin play on Saturday, Aug. 17 against Quebec.

The medal round gets underway Sunday, Aug. 18 with the bronze medal game going at 1:30 p.m. and the gold medal game at 4:30  p.m. PST.
