Masters’ curling at its best will be featured this weekend at Golden Ears Curling Club as teams in the Fraser Valley strive to represent this zone in the Masters’ Provincial Championships this Spring.

The top eight men’s teams in the over-60 and over-70 categories will compete in a double knockout tournament  with the championship games scheduled for Saturday.

The local representative in the over-60 division is the rink of Earl King (skip), Jack Stadel (third), Lorne Fletcher (second) and Peter England (lead), with Roger Fast as  fifth man.

In Masters’ events this week, the King rink ran their first-place record to 9-1, losing to Angelo Masaro before taking a narrow 7-6 win over Bill Hanula’s rink.

Hanula, along with Mike Murgatroyd, Terry Lajeunesse and Albert Stimson, almost pulled off the victory over King, but Hanula’s last shot came up short.

Ron Laxdal’s rink of Bill Ritchie, Tony Stadig and Chuck Lilley battled Masaro to a 6-6 draw. Masaro remains in second-place with a 7-2-1 record.
