Intermediate A Maple Ridge Burrards net first win in Nanaimo

The Maple Ridge Burrards demolished the Nanaimo Timbermen 17-5 on the road on Vancouver Island.

The Maple Ridge Burrards intermediate A lacrosse team began their inaugural season in the B.C. Intermediate Lacrosse League in style last Saturday, as they demolished the Nanaimo Timbermen 17-5 on the road on Vancouver Island.

The Burrards got out to an early lead in the first period, outscoring Nanaimo 5-1 at the first intermission.

The Burrards came alive in the middle frame, outscoring Nanaimo 10-3 to take a 15-4 lead heading into the third period. Maple Ridge scored two more goals in the final frame to finish 12 goals up on the home team.

Joe Olson led the Burrards offence with three goals and five assists. James Baker had three goals and three assists, while Brett Kujala had two goals and six assists. The Burrards play their home opener tonight [Friday] against the Burnaby Lakers at Planet Ice in Maple Ridge. Game time is 8:30 p.m.
