Junior bantam Knights earn first shutout

The Meadow Ridge Knights junior bantam squad beat the Chilliwack Red Giants 16–0 at home.

The Meadow Ridge Knights junior bantam squad celebrated their first shutout victory of the season on Saturday, beating the Chilliwack Red Giants 16–0 at home. Brandon Hunt scored a touchdown early in the game to put the Knights ahead. Mark Podschadly ran the ball from the 20-yard line for the Knights' second touchdown of the day.

On special teams Jake Loftus successfully kicked both convert attempts, adding four points. Tato Ferryro-Araya made a clutch reception for long yardage to get the Knights out of their own end and down the field, helping to preserve the shutout.

On defence, Kailesh Kumar made some great tackles on the outside, while Zack Gordon also put in a strong effort.

The junior bantam's next game is this Saturday at Townsend Park in Chilliwack against the Chilliwack Blue Giants at 7 p.m.

The Peewee Blue Knights also notched a shutout win, beating the Chilliwack Blue Giants 26-0 with a solid team effort.

The offensive line, anchored by Jacob Gordon and Tristen Parkin, as well as wide receiver Ryan Spooner, made key blocks to open up the Knights' running game.

Tyler Spencer ran for two touchdowns, while Cody Hogarth and Brayden Hamilton each had one of their own.

The defence was led by linemen Mackenzie Gordon, James Grimason, Sebastian Berg, Avery Fitchet, and Justin Nickel, who each helped shut down Chilliwack’s offence all day.

The peewee Gold Knights were on the wrong side of shutout, losing 8-0 to the Abbotsford Falcons in a physical defensive battle for first place in the peewee standings.

Blake Alford led the Knights' defence with numerous tackles for losses in the Falcons' backfield. Carlos Reddekopp and Detroit Hambly held the Falcons' running backs in check with their constant pressure on the Falcons' offensive line. On offence, Ryley Durante, Cody Stewart and Harrison Longhi did their best to contain the Falcons blitz. The Gold Knights next game is in Abbotsford at Rotary Staduim on Oct. 6.

The atom Knights made short work of the Chilliwack White Giants, winning 38-6 at home on Saturday. The atom squad's next game is this Saturday on the road against the Chilliwack Blue Giants.

The bantam Knights lost to the Chilliwack Giants 45-7, and host Vernon this Saturday at home.

The midget Knights had a close game against Chilliwack on Saturday, with a loss 17-14 loss at home.
