Maitland rink runs streak to eight games

Jim Maitland’s rink continued its surge towards first place with a hard-fought 9-4 victory over Andy Ferguson in Haney Masters’ League play at Golden Ears curling complex.

Strong play by third Steve Senko, second Arnie Melissen and lead Bob Neil gave the Maitland rink its eighth consecutive win after suffering two opening defeats.   Ferguson, along with Max Albrechtsen, Bob Asher and Joe Querin, led 4-3 into the fifth end, but gave up five for the loss.

In other action, Bob MacKay skipped his rink to an easy 8-2 win over the slumping Peter Koehler rink.  MacKay combined good shot making from Peter England, Kent Skene and Chris English with delicate draw weight in grabbing leads of 5-0 and 7-0 on way to victory.

Jim Keenan’s rink stayed in the middle of the pack out curling Lorne Fletcher with a tight last-end win.  Second Hugh McIntyre put two rocks in the house and Dave Christensen  and Keenan protected them for the win.
