Local golfers put on quite the show at the MJT PLYR Series at Ledgeview Golf and Country Club on the long weekend, with both Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge golfers getting top-three finishes.
Despite never getting below par on any of the 36 holes, Maple Ridge’s Elsa Wu, 13, managed to play her way to second place in the U15 girls division with consistent shooting across both her Saturday and Sunday outings.
After shooting a 78 on the first day, Wu was stopped just short of getting the gold due to two consecutive triple bogies on the back nine on Sunday, finishing with a score of 80 for the day and 158 for the tournament, only two strokes behind the victor.
Cassie Zhiyi Chen, 13, also competed in the same division, but the Maple Ridge golfer suffered from a rough start, shooting 95 on the first day. She then rebounded to get a 90 the next day, finishing in the 14th spot.

For the boys, Pitt Meadows’ Jaden August, 14, played head and shoulders above the competition in the bantam boys division, finishing the first day as three-over par. On Sunday, August had a bit of a back-and-forth, scoring a double bogey on hole five, but then rebounding to get a birdie on the next hole and following it up with two more birdies to finish out the round with a 74.
This was enough to earn him a comfortable victory, finishing six strokes ahead of the closest competitor.
August attributed his win to his putting, which he said was pretty good at the Abbotsford tournament.
“It’s a good feeling [to win],” said August. “It’s a tough course.”
