Maple Ridge Burrards beat Langley to take playoff spot

WLA club back in action this Tuesday at Cam Neely Arena

The Maple Ridge Burrards won a game with playoff implications, to take over the final post-season berth in the Western Lacrosse Assocation (WLA).

The Burrards beat the Langley Thunder 7-4 on Wednesday night, July 2, at the Langley Events Centre, and passed them in the standings.

The next night, the Burrards lost 10-6 to the New Westminster Salmonbellies, who are in a battle for first in the WLA with a record of 9-2. The loss was the second half of a tough back-to-back for Ridge.

Against Langley, the WLA's leading scorer Marcus Klarich was the game's first star, as he scored twice for the Burrards.  Goaltender Brandon Humphrey put in a second star effort, as he allowed just four goals and made 45 saves. Garret Winter also scored twice in the game.

Against the 'Bellies, Klarich had two goals and two assists, to run his league-leading total to 52 points in 12 games.

Dylan Mcintosh had a goal and two assists, while Kaden Doughty scored and added a helper.

The Burrards have four wins, six losses, and two ties, and sit in fourth place in the standings.

They now have six games left in the regular season, and despite the parity in the league, it can be considered a favourable schedule. They have two games against the seventh-place Nanaimo Timbermen (1-11), and two more against the sixth place Burnaby Lakers (2-8), and four of the last games are at home. They also also face top-tier teams in the Salmonbellies (9-2) and Victoria Shamrocks (9-1-1).

The Lakers will be at Cam Neely Arena on Tuesday, July 8 at 7:30 p.m. for the Burrards next home game.
