Maple Ridge gymnasts climb podium at provincial championships

A number of local gymnast climbed the podium at the 2011 Provincial Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships that took place in Vancouver, April 9 and 10.

Maple Ridge’s Mikayla Bruendl took bronze in the Level 4C Western Stream competition, placing third in the rope, hoop, and ribbon routines.

In the Level 5B Western Stream, Hannah Scoular grabbed gold while Kennedy Krause finished fourth.

Scoular finished first in the ribbon routine, second in the rope routine, and third in the ball routine.

Krause was second in ball, third in ribbon, and sixth in the hoop routine.

In the National Level Novice competition, Erika Bernard was fourth all-round, after third-place finishes in the rope and ball routines.

Bruendl, Krause, and Bernard will each be representing B.C. at the Western Regional Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Edmonton, April  27 to 30.

Maple Ridge’s Shayla Ogloff added to her already impressive trophy cabinet with a silver-medal finish at the Provincial Artistic Gymnastic Championships, held April 8 to 10 at the Langley Event Center.

Ogloff finished second all-round in the P5 Tyro competition, winning  silver on the bars, and bronze on the balance beam and floor routine.

Close to 800 trampoline and artistic gymnasts competed at the event.
