Edith McDermott elementary won the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows elementary school boys’ basketball finals last week.

The playoffs took place at Westview secondary.

The Edith McDermott Magic and Yennadon Eagles were both undefeated entering the championship final.

After 40 minutes of a slug out war, with both teams scoring and defending well, Edith McDermott prevailed with a 43-40 victory.

The battle for third place was a back-and-forth affair between Alexander Robinson and Maple Ridge elementary schools.

They fought down to the final minute, with Alexander Robinson picking up the third-place win.

“The whole afternoon was amazing. Thanks to Katie McLeod and Westview for hosting and all of the work of the Westview Basketball Academy, from the refereeing to score-keeping to hosting. Wow. It was a great event,” said grade 6/7 league coordinator Jeff Conway, of Yennadon elementary.

“Thanks to all of the coaches for their hard work this year and I think the final four was a perfect reflection of the amazing talent and competition we had this year on the boys side.”
