A pair of Ridge Meadows Pride softball players are representing Canada at the U-15 Women's Softball World Cup, which is under way in Italy.
Infielders Sara MacDonald and Amarah Hunter are both playing key roles for the Canadian team at the tourney, playing shortstop and second base, and batting high in the order.
The Canadians will finish in seventh place.
The tourney started on June 27, and in the opening round, the Canadians had two wins and three losses. They lost to Czechia 3-2 to open the tournament.
Next they beat Singapore 8-3 in a game where leadoff hitter MacDonald went two for three with a triple, a run scored and an RBI, while Hunter had a hit, a walk, an RBI, and a run scored.
Then they suffered an 8-0 to the top-seeded Team USA, and a close 4-3 loss to Chinese Taipei in a game where MacDonald had two hits, including a double, and an RBI.
They finished the opening round with a 7-0 win over Australia.
In the placement round, they shut out Italy 9-0, and American Samoa 7-0.
Amarah Hunter had five hits in 17 at bats for a .294 average, while tacking on a pair of walks, and just one strikeout. She also has three RBI.
