The Pitt Meadows junior boys basketball squad has been tough in tournaments all year, and they are just about to host their own.

The Marauders beat Kelowna in the final of the Holy Cross tournament over the weekend.

It was the sixth tournament the team has played in this year, and they have been in the final of all of them, winning two.

The team consists of eight boys, and last weekend the two starting guards were ill. Grade 9 phenom Ryan Tougas, who an international BMX competitor, “came up and took over the reigns of the team as if he had been there all year,” said coach Rich Goulet.

He said his team is tops in the Maple Ridge league by a large margin, and in most games they are 30 or more points ahead of their rivals

The team is presently ranked number seven in the province.

The Marauders host their annual Junior Air Show this weekend. Lord Tweedsmuir will be the team to beat, having been ranked first in the province, and presently number three.

The Marauders will begin the Junior Air Show on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. against Collingwood.
