Mason second at junior worlds qualifier

Maple Ridge’s Keanna Mason finished in second place at the Canadian Junior Golf Association’s Junior Worlds / Lipton Brisk Canada Cup Qualifier event last weekend at Greenacres Golf Course in Richmond.

Conditions were wet and windy as Mason and Cherie Chua headed out for the second round of play tied for the lead. Chua finished one stoke better than Mason, shooting a second round 80 for a two-day total of 157, while Mason finished with an 81.

Maple Ridge’s Seung Jun Woo came from behind after an opening round of 77 to finish second in the boys’ 15 to 19 division, with a two-day total of 146. Woo shot a second day two-under 69 for the best round of the day. He finished second by retrogression with Gann finishing third.

After shooting a first-round four-under-par 67, Kevin Vigna of Coquitlam managed to hold off the field to win the division. Vigna shot a second round 76 to win the division by three strokes.

Maple Ridge’s Tae-In Lee finished tied for 14th.

In the boys’ U-15 division, round one leader Curtis Chan of Richmond hung on with a final-round 75 after shooting a first round 70 to win by two shots with a two day total of 145. In second place was Santiago Bouyra of Qualicum Beach with a two-day total of 147.

Third place went to three-time CJGA winner Jordan Lu of Surrey, who overcame a first round 76 to shoot a second round 72.
