Meadowridge Knights squads notch wins

The Meadowridge Knights community football program registered plenty of additions to the win-column last weekend, with five of the seven local teams in action coming away with victories.

The Knights bantam team travelled to Nanaimo and evened their record at 1-1 with a 41-0 victory over the Redmen. Brian Dongalen had touchdown runs of 90 and 56 yards and also hauled in a Jackson Murdoch pass for a 44-yard score. Murdoch, Hayden South and Kurtis Blaine scored the other Knight touchdowns.

The defense was led by Tyrel Ogloff, Dylan Bridgman and Jake Rodgers.

The junior bantam Knights, meanwhile, beat Chilliwack 3-1 in a tough defensive battle.

The peewee Gold Knights beat the North Langley Bears 18-0. Cade Cote scored on two long touchdown runs while William Bartolo help hold off North Langley defenders on the on the offensive line.

The defence was led by Blake Alford who made several tackles in the Bears’ backfield. Lukas Kolobara played a great game on both the offensive and defensive lines, recording several tackles and making many key blocks .

The atom Gold Knights won their home opener 31-0 against North Langley. Kurtis Brown started the game off with a 68-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. From there, the offence piled up another 279 yards rushing as linemen James Harder, Evan Love and Mackenzie Gordon created gaping holes for the running backs. The defence played hard, creating five turnovers.

They were led by Liam Mountford, Tyson Caughy and Brandon Goodridge, who recovered one of the turnovers. After missing the first game of the season, Tyson Phare had a great game with seven tackles and a fumble recovery on defence, as well as a 52-yard run for a touchdown on offence.

The atom Blue Knights won their second game of the season, beating the Chilliwack White Giants 38–0. Knights offensive linemen Carlos Reddekopp, Mitchell Alcinay and Ethan Holland paved the road to the end zone for the Meadowridge back-field, including an impressive 35-yard touchdown run by Riley Rooney. Commanding control on the line of scrimmage were Lucas Deane and Aiden Fuchs while ends, Jaxon Smart and Riley Celino, shut down the Giants offence.

The peewee Blue Knights lost 48-6 to Abbotsford White. Brandon Hunt, Jake Loftus and Kailesh Kumar made some good plays on offence. Mason Wakabayashi, Alex Rideout and Ryley Durante tried hard on defence.

The Meadowridge Knights midget team lost 21-3 to Nanaimo. The Knights led 3-0 at half-time after a 36-yard field goal from Nick Stoyeff but a few mental mistakes in the second half cost the Knights the game. Ross Allam and Rashaun Simonise ran the ball well on offence while Doug McNally led the defence.

The midget Knights fall to 0-2 this season and face Cowichan this Saturday in their home opener.
