The Ridge Meadows Royals midget AAA squad travelled to Vancouver Island last weekend for a pair of double-headers and came home with a trio of wins for its efforts.

The Royals faced the Victoria Mariners on Saturday and quickly got out to a 7-0 lead after an explosive first inning. However, the Mariners battled back, scoring nine runs over the next two innings to take the lead.

The see-saw battle continued for the remainder of the game until the Mariners pulled ahead late, winning 14-11. Shortstop Alex Miyahara reached base all five at-bats, with a double and four walks. Catcher Eric Blower reached base four times, while designated hitter Cole Ross was 2-4 with a double and a pair of RBIs.

Things improved for the Royals in the second game of the day, as they bounced back with a 10-3 win to split their series with the Mariners. Pitcher Brandon Sound pitched a complete game, allowing three runs on six hits. Jordan Wolfe and call-up Keegan Head both recorded a pair of hits and an RBI.

On Sunday, the Royals travelled to Ladysmith to face the Mid-Island Mustangs, coming away with a pair of wins despite some soggy conditions.

The first game was a pitcher’s duel, with the Royals’ Keanen Buckley emerging the victor in a 3-1 win. Lucas Tillotson hit a pair of RBIs to ensure the win.

The Royals romped to a 14-3 win in their final game of the weekend. Miyahara, Ross, Sound, and left-fielder Cole Johnson each had a pair of hits as the squad used a balanced attack to secure the victory.
