The Ridge Meadows Burrards girls’ lacrosse team clinched first place in the Lower Mainland Minor Lacrosse Commission’s peewee league last weekend, downing Port Coquitlam 6-5.
The Burrards got out to a 4-0 lead, only to have PoCo tie the game at 5-5. Jenica Schellaus scored the winning goal for Ridge Meadows, assisted by Jade Meredith.
The peewee girls finish the season with an 18-1-0 record and will face either Burnaby or Coquitlam in the opening round of the playoffs.
The Ridge Meadows Burrards junior girls’ squad travelled to Nanaimo last weekend, coming home with a 6-5 victory.
The Burrards took a 3-1 lead, only to have Nanaimo score a pair of powerplay goals to tie things up. The two teams traded goals until Jessica Thomson scored the winner for the Burrards. Alysha Coete provided solid goaltending to ensure the win for Ridge Meadows, despite being outshot.
The junior girls finish the regular season with a record of 9-10-1, good for 19 points, and will face Port Coquitlam in a single game knock-out to advance to the league playoffs.
In midget action, the Burrards girls beat Nanaimo 6-2 on Sunday to finish off their regular season with a win, after losing a close game to the Burnaby Lakers on Saturday.
Sierra LaForge had a pair of goals against Burnaby, while Ciarra Curran had a pair of assists.
After finishing the season with an 11-8-1 record, the Burrards will again face Burnaby, this time in an opening round best-of-three playoff series.
The bantam girls dominated Langley with a 9-1 win on Saturday, before falling 5-4 to Port Coquitlam on Sunday to finish up their regular season play. Megan Kinna had the hat-trick against Langley, while Sarah Ickert scored twice. Strong defensive play by Mikayla Quinn and Madelyn Barr helped keep Langley off the board.
The bantam girls finish the season in third place in the Lower Mainland Minor Lacrosse Commission’s bantam league with a record of 11-8-1, and take on New Westminster No. 2 in a three-game series that gets underway Wednesday.
The novice girls beat New Westminster on Saturday 8-6 to finish the season in third place with a record of 10-3-1.
MacKenzie Boldt had a hat trick in the win, while Hannah Gjaltema had a pair of goals. Also scoring for the Burrards were Ashley Jansson, Carmen Suchodolski, and Lily Ferguson. Leona Sinclair stood tall in net to get the win.
