The Pitt Meadows Marauders had a great start to the Grade 8 football season on Monday with a 41-6 victory over W.J. Mouat.
In the first game of their high school careers, the Pitt players had long runs, deep throws, booming kicks and chased the Mouat QB around the field all afternoon.
Marauder Dallas Paddington played both running back and middle linebacker. On offence, he benefited from some big blocks that sprung him for two long touchdowns runs. And on defence, he was like a viking in the Mouat backfield.
Quarterback Chase Miller also had a long touchdown run.
Coach George Clarke said the convincing win, combined with his team winning three scrimmage-style games in a pre-season tournament in Chilliwack, has him optimistic that it could be a good season.
His team is playing smart football for its level, he said.
“They’re a lot more advanced than we were at this point last season.”
They will play at home again Monday, hosting Stafford of Langley. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m.
