Pitt Meadows' Morrison joins SFU Clan women’s soccer team

Pitt Meadows midfielder Brianna Morrison to to join Simon Fraser Clan women's soccer roster this fall

The Simon Fraser University women’s soccer team has added Pitt Meadows midfielder Brianna Morrison to its roster this fall.

Morrison joins Coquitlam Metro-Ford’s U-18 HPL teammate Olivia Aguiar on the SFU squad, along with three other players.

“I’m very impressed with Brianna’s rehab from a devastating knee injury,” said head coach Shelley Howieson. “It tells me that we have a player who is dedicated and will push that extra mile to get the most out of a situation. Every time I see her play she does something that excites me about having her in our program.”

Morrison adds depth to the back line for SFU, while Aguia will be competing for a spot in the midfield.

The Clan has also added Amanda Gilliland of Delta and Shivani Sami of Burnaby.

Both have recently finished off their youth careers with the Total Soccer Systems women’s team and their experience playing at the senior level should help the duo transition into NCAA play, according to Howieson.

Gilliland is a goalkeeper and will be competing for playing time as a freshman.

Her experience within the Julie Devriendt of Delta will also join SFU after finishing  off her U-18 season with Surrey United in the HPL league.

The Clan will head into the 2012 season with no returning seniors and look to improve on their 2-12-2 record last year while playing in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

Morrison and her Clan teammates will open their season against Cal State Stanislaus on Sunday, Sept. 2 at Terry Fox Field in Burnaby.
