Pitt’s Payne grabs pair of silvers at B.C. track finals

Pitt Meadows Secondary School finished in eighth place at the 2012 B.C. High School Track and Field Championships earlier this month, led by the double silver-medal performance by sprinter Shania Payne.

Payne set personal bests of 12.56 seconds in the 100-metre and 25.51 seconds in the 200-metre race, finishing second in both races.

Olivia Moriconi finished third in the women’s shot put a throw of 10.95 metres, as well as the discus event, with a throw of 34.42 metres.

Rashaun Simonise was third in the men’s 100-metre sprint.

Pitt amassed 44 points at the track meet to end up in a three-way tie for eighth with Mount Douglas and Lambrick Park.

Mark Kalmykov of Maple Ridge secondary finished second in the hammer throw with a distance of 49.37 metres
