Maple Ridge power lifter Kassidy Webster has set new Canadian records in her sport.

At the provincial championships in Vancouver last month, the 15-year-old had a squat of 90 kg, a bench press of 57.5 kg and a deadlift of 120 kg. Those marks, and her combined total of 267.5 kg were national records in her sub-junior 52kg weight class – she weighs just 51.4 kg.

After a bad fall when she was a pre-teen, Webster suffered a broken hip. It was an injury that doctors at Children’s Hospital feared could leave her with a permanent limp and other complications.

As reported in a November 2013 profile, her dedication to rehabilitation has left her with elite-level training habits.

Her trainer, Adam Francilia, said she will now begin training in the snatch and clean and jerk techniques – training for Olympic power lifting events,

Her win qualifies her for the national powerlifting championships in 2015.
