Ramblers first at Fraser Valley finals

The Maple Ridge secondary Ramblers badminton team cleaned up at the Grade 8 Fraser Valley Championships, held at Brookswood secondary in Delta last Friday, winning gold overall with 74 points, as well as winning three of the five events.

In the girls’ singles event, Chantelle Stewart claimed the Fraser Valley championship, while Daisy Baptiste finished fifth. Stewart also won the mixed doubles event with Clayton skipper at the district, Upper Fraser Valley, and Fraser Valley finals.

In girls’ doubles, Julia Stanley and Laura Escueta finished third, while Daisy Baptiste and Cathy Song were fifth.

In the boys’ singles competition, Skipper finshed third, while Pavan Toor was fifth. Toor and partner Brian Choi combined to win the boys’ doubles event, while Adam Zubek-Nizol and Tim Cho were third.

2011 has been a banner year for the Ramblers badminton team, with junior Alison Lim and Shih-Yun Wang winning the Fraser Valley championships in the girls’ doubles event, as well as at the Upper Fraser Valley and district finals.

Laura Tacon and Megan Kuo combined to take bronze at the senior Fraser Valley championships, after taking gold at the district and Upper Fraser Valley competitions.
